Description

October 31, 1968: Chemelil Sugar Factory comes into operation. President Jomo Kenyatta performed the opening ceremony of the factory whose one of its goals was to provide farmers with an assured market for their cash crop output. During the same function President Kenyatta made a strong appeal to the Leader of the Opposition, Mr. Oginga Odinga, to return to Kanu immediately in the national interest. Here, President Jomo Kenyatta makes a point at the sugar factory on October 31, 1968. With him, from left are Minister for Agriculture Mr. Bruce McKenzie, Mrs. Ngina Kenyatta and Minister for Defense, Dr. Njoroge Mungai.
