January 20, 1994: FORD-Kenya chairman Jaramogi Oginga Odinga dies at Aga Khan Hospital, Kisumu, of cardiac arrest. When Kenya became a Republic in 1964, he was its first Vice-President. In 1966 he resigned as VP and quit Kanu to form the Kenya People’s Union (KPU). Mr. Odinga was a prominent opposition leader and a crusader for democracy. Here, Mr. Odinga is sworn in as 1st Vice President of Kenya on Jamhuri day December 12, 1964.
