Description

Kakamega Senator Dr. Boni Khalwale is surrounded by residents and town cleaners who ambushed him at a petrol station in Kakamega town. On Friday, July 3, 2015, the residents demanded answers regarding the legal battle at the Milimani Law Courts involving the near collapse of the Mumias Sugar Company. The confrontation followed a high-profile court ruling earlier that week where Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero obtained a gag order against Khalwale, restraining the Senator from linking him to the miller’s financial woes. Addressing the crowd as he fueled his vehicle, a defiant Khalwale assured the residents that he would not be silenced by court injunctions. He pledged to provide “water-tight” evidence in court to ensure those responsible for looting the company are held accountable and forced to refund the billions stolen. Khalwale emphasized that the recovery of these funds was the only way to restore the region’s economy, pay farmers their long-overdue dues, and allow parents to afford school fees for their children. July 3, 2015.
