September 8, 1971 : Mr. Jaramogi Oginga Odinga former president of the defunct Opposition party, Kenya People’s Union (KPU) and a former Vice-President of Kenya rejoin Kanu. He was welcomed back to the party by Kanu’s acting secretary-general Mr. Robert Matano at the party’s headquarters in Nairobi. Here, afterwards, a jubilant crowd cheers on Mr. Oginga as gives the one finger Kanu Salute.
