Description

National Assembly Majority Leader Aden Duale (left), Senate Majority Leader Kithure Kindiki (center), and Dagoretti South MP Dennis Waweru consult during a prayer rally in Ol Kalou, Nyandarua County. On Sunday, November 8, 2015, the leaders joined thousands of supporters to pray for Deputy President William Ruto and former journalist Joshua Sang regarding their cases at the International Criminal Court (ICC). During the event, Duale launched a scathing attack on the Africa Centre for Open Governance (AFRICOG) and other civil society groups, accusing them of playing an “evil role” by allegedly coaching witnesses and pushing for the conviction of the duo. Duale and Kindiki claimed that AFRICOG was working for foreign “paymasters” to destabilize the Jubilee administration. They vowed that over 100 legislators would travel to The Hague to protest the court’s use of recanted evidence under Rule 68, threatening that Kenya would lead an African exodus from the Rome Statute if the ICC did not cease its “interference” in Kenyan politics.
