January 11, 1961: Pan-African Freedom Movement for East and Central Africa (PAFMECA) leaders hold “Summit” conference in Nairobi and agreed that the territories of East Africa should federate. Here are East African leaders from left; Uganda’s Prime Minister Dr Milton Obote, Tanganyika’s president Dr Julius Nyerere, Kenya’s Prime minister Jomo Kenyatta at Embakasi airport, Nairobi in July 1963.
