March 1, 1996: President Moi and the three main Opposition leaders hold a rare three-hour meeting at State House, Nairobi. The FORD Kenya National Chairman, Mr. Michael Kijana Wamalwa, Democratic Party of Kenya (DP) Chairman, Mr Mwai Kibaki, and Mr Martin Shikuku of FORD Asili met with the Head of State after years of futile attempts. The three are the pillars behind the recently launched Opposition Alliance. The unprecedented parley comes barely two weeks after the President asked Mr. Kibaki and Mr. Shikuku to join him to develop the country. They both rejected. The meeting was the first high level contact between President Moi and his rivals in the multi-party era,
