August 30, 1988: President Daniel Toroitich Arap Moi said expansion and modernization work on the Kenya Navy was at an advanced state. President Moi was speaking as he commissioned two Navy ships at Mtongwe Mombasa. The two ships Nyayo and the Umoja constituted a remarkable achievement for plans to expand and modernize the Navy.In the picture, the President cuts a cake shaped like a ship when he commissioned the two Kenya Navy ships.
