Description

September 14, 1993: A Freedom of Information Act should be enacted to ensure that freedom of expression thrived in Kenya, the MP for Kikuyu, Mr. Paul Muite (Ford- Kenya), says. “Those of us in Parliament should work together to see that this matter receives parliamentary attention as a matter of priority,” Mr Muite said. Armed with such a law, he said, the Press could sue for access to such places as Molo and also to public information that has currently denied them without justifiable cause.” The MP, who was a panelist at a public forum, praised the Nation for serializing its investigative Goldenberg scandal and termed it “an excellent potential of the media to set the agenda for democracy in the country.” Ford-Kenya’s first vice-chairman Paul Muite (2nd left) chats with (from left) The Kenya National Democratic Alliance (KENDA) member Joram Kariuki, Mr. Andrew Ngumba (DP), and the Rev Timothy Njoya, during a public forum on “Kenya’s Human Rights and Democratic Development” at Safari Park Hotel.
