Description

Deputy President William Ruto converses with former Kakamega Senator Dr. Boni Khalwale (left) and Ikolomani MP Bernard Shinali at the Township Primary School grounds in Kakamega. On Thursday, April 14, 2022, the DP attended an interdenominational church service and a fundraiser in aid of various local churches. During the event, Ruto openly stated that he was banking on the support of the church and religious leaders to secure the presidency in the upcoming August 2022 General Election. He praised the clergy for their role in maintaining peace and social welfare, contrasting his “faith-led” campaign with his competitors’ strategies. Khalwale and Shinali, who were key pillars of the Kenya Kwanza campaign in Western Kenya, reaffirmed their commitment to delivering the “Mulembe” vote to the DP, arguing that his bottom-up economic model aligned with the church’s mission to uplift the poor. The visit was part of a strategic blitz across Kakamega County to consolidate support in the final months before the polls. April 14, 2022.
