Description

August 30, 1971: Kanu Governing Council debates and adopts the report of the Kenya’s ruling party Re-organization Committee at a meeting at State House, Mombasa. According to the report, Kanu, would undergo a far-reaching organizational shake-up aimed at reactivating and revitalizing it. Here, President Jomo Kenyatta leads wananchi in singing “Kanu Yajenga Nchi” after being entertained by traditional dancers and choirs from Kilifi District at State House Mombasa, on May 9, 1977. The lively dancing and pleasant tunes were continuously punctuated by loud applause from the audience which included a contingent of sailors from the American ship La Salle on a visit to Coast. Mzee Kenyatta was accompanied by the Minister of State, Mr. Mbiyu Koinange (left), and Coast PC Mr. Eliud Mahihu
