Description

Matungu MP Justus Murunga (left), Butere MP Tindi Mwale, and Ford Kenya Deputy Party Leader Boni Khalwale address mourners at Lunza, Butere. On Saturday, March 31, 2018, during the burial of Mzee Godfrey Wanyangu Safu, the grandfather of MP Tindi Mwale, the leaders announced a major political shift for Western Kenya. Khalwale claimed that the “Handshake” between President Uhuru Kenyatta and Raila Odinga was a “trap” set by Jubilee to neutralize the opposition leader, rather than the other way around. He declared that Ford Kenya and Musalia Mudavadi’s ANC were in the final stages of dissolving their respective parties to form a single, formidable political entity. This new party, he argued, would unite the Luhya, Teso, and Saboat communities to front a single presidential candidate for the 2022 General Election. Khalwale asserted that the historic rivalry between the Bukusu and Maragoli sub-tribes had ended with the Wetangula-Mudavadi alliance, paving the way for the region to negotiate for power as a united bloc rather than as “political appendages” of other coalitions.
