Butere MP Martin Shikuku all his campaign meetings organized is cancelled by Kakamega District Commissioner Mr. Nicholas Mberia because he has allegedly incited the people and used derogatory language “against the authority.” But the veteran politician denied the accusations. He said Butere people had been peaceful since 1963, when he was first elected MP. He appealed to them to continue with that spirit until March 21 to prove “they are civilized.” Here from left, Members of the Parliament, Martin Shikuku (Butere), Maoka Maore (Ntonyiri) and Raila Odinga (Langata) in June 1996 during budget speech.
